Pete at Jurassic 10k, 2009
I like to run for fun and for exercise, but I need a challenge to keep me motivated. I’m lucky enough to live in Charmouth, Dorset – part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site – where there are plenty of great coastal paths to run on. Once a year we are host to the Charmouth Challenge, an eight mile run recognised as the most southerly fell race in the UK. It starts from sea-level at the village school, goes up Stonebarrow Hill, then down, then up Golden Cap – the highest point on the South Coast, then down, then up Stonebarrow again, then down to the finish at the school.
My challenge is to complete the 2010 Challenge next July, to finish, and to do it in a reasonable time.
I think I could do it in about 2 hours at the moment, jogging round and walking up the hills. So my minimum target is 1hr 45m, and my outrageous target is about 1hr 30m.
I intend to keep this blog as a record of my progress and will include details of training runs, preparation races, etc.
I’m doing this for my own benefit, but the race is run in aid of the school, so if anyone should feel like giving me an extra incentive, then by all means feel free to sponsor me, offer me free beer, etc.

Well done Pete – I like the challenge! This fell run in July sounds great – best of luck with it. I have started a running blog myself and I also have a challenge – to complete the year with plenty of runs and only drink 24 pints the entire year… (that is tough enough for an Irishman like myself) http://www.aroundtheyearin24pints.blogspot.com
